Here is some Frequently Asked Questions:
As soon as possible. In peak wedding season I often have to turn away couples due to the date being already booked. If you don’t want to lose your date get in early! Get in touch to check availability.
I use the latest professional Nikon cameras and lenses to get the best possible photographs.
Having grown up in Scotland I know how unpredictable the weather can be. We will discuss this before your wedding. Nice venues normally have a range of places and features indoors we can use for photos. I also have lights on stands we can use to illuminate even the darkest room. Also if you are feeling brave I keep large white umbrellas in the car, I don’t mind getting wet and we could create some amazing photos together.
I wouldn’t say I have a typical style. Each wedding is different, I prefer to use natural light when possible but I also carry flash guns in case they are needed (if the weather is bad or the wedding room is really dark). I also like to use flash creatively to get you some very unique photos once it’s a bit darker.
Yes. For today’s brides this is a large and important part of your big day. I’m not there to catch anyone in a state of undress; it’s to capture the fun memories that only happen in the morning of your wedding and to photograph all those expensive details such as your shoes and dress. It also lets anyone I haven’t met yet get to know me a bit better and then they will be more relaxed in front of the camera for the rest of the day.
It completely depends on you and how many photos you want to take. I would recommend limiting the group shots to 10-12 as getting people away from the party can take a bit of time. After those I would move onto getting some pictures of the couple. I do enjoy this part as it lets me get creative, I could go on for hours! Normally there is roughly 2 hours at the venue between the wedding service and sitting down for the meal. This is usually just enough. If I have any more ideas we can always get a few more after the dinner.
No. I know how much weddings cost these days and I would never ask you to spend more on another meal for me or an assistant.
Wedding photography is my second job so I can’t always devote as much time midweek as I’d like to editing pictures. Depending on the time of the year it can be anything up to 3 months. May-Aug is my busiest time.
Every wedding is completely different so I never give a definite number. However I regularly give back over 300 colour photos per wedding as a rough figure.
No. In standard practice across the photographic industry once I capture a photograph in camera I own full copyright. However I do supply all wedding photos on a disc with a document giving you and your family full printing rights.
Travel up to 50 miles from my home is included in your wedding package. Anything further will incur additional travel costs. Please get in touch to discuss any special requirements.
Yes. Each picture will have the exposure and colours corrected plus my own style of editing. I don’t airbrush anyone to look like someone they aren’t, you will still look like yourself. I will remove any skin blemishes and obvious distractions from photos so you both look your absolute best.
I can stay as long as I’m needed. A normal days coverage involves me at bridal preparations right up to the first dance. Roughly 10 hours of coverage. If you need me there longer please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
A great picture is one that looks like the couple are truly interacting, having fun and look relaxed. All good photographers can get these. Although you can’t really tell; in 99% of these they will actually be posed and given direction by the photographer. I will take you both away from the crowd for a wee while, get you relaxed, we can have a laugh and get great pictures. I’d never make you do anything you feel is awkward, you are there to have a good time after all!
Yes. These pictures are always well received by your families and are treasured for a lifetime.
No. I wouldn’t know where to begin! I prefer to stick to what I’m good at. I have however worked alongside lots of great videographers and can happily recommend some. See my wedding links page for a few recommendations.
This is a recent trend. It can also be called an engagement shoot. This is mainly to get you and your partner used to me and used to being in front of the camera. So come your big day you will feel more relaxed and know what to expect. It also gets you some great photos and these can be used on your wedding stationary, save the dates or even create a cool signing board for your wedding. You don’t strictly need to have this but if this is something that interests you then get in touch and we can have a chat about it.
I like to meet all my couples and get to know you a bit beforehand. It’s also handy to find out your expectations of the photography, go over the times and get a photo list together of who you would like to be in the group shots. I wouldn’t ever dream of turning up to a wedding without all this crucial info!
My albums come from one of the top professional printers in the world. These have thick bound pages an all photos are printed to these. This means I can design many different layouts to fit in all your favourite pictures. Albums come in a variety of covers and their own presentation box. These are a fantastic way of showing off your pictures and they really have the wow factor.
Of course! This is your album. You can choose as many photos as you like. We can even add extra pages* should you find it hard to choose! I would design it electronically and can show you a proof before we send it to the printers. You can chop and change anything. I would recommend keeping it fairly simple though, some pictures deserve to have their own page to themselves. (*Extra pages do incur additional costs)
The printers are UK-based so it should take no longer than 2-4 weeks.
Yes. This is so everything is above-board and you have a black and white copy of what to expect.
Yes. I have full liability and equipment insurance for extra peace of mind.
To book your date I do require that you sign my wedding contract and pay £100 non-refundable deposit.
